Taj looks cooked.
He needs to lose most of his minutes to Saric and Cov.

KAT has 18 and 15 with only 9 shot attempts. Wiggins has been quiet.

Towns still has only 9 shot attempts. He should get 18 a night. Bench outscored 40-15.

Great game. Double-doubles from Teague and KAT, and almost Taj. Pretty good ball movement, thanks to some nifty assists by Teague and Rose. The starting unit looked like they had a weight lifted off their back and were playing freely. The bench sort of stunk it up though. Tyus was a no-show in 13 minutes. Tolliver's shot wasn't going in at all, but he did do some work on the boards at least.
It will be great to get two more starting-caliber players on the court. Hopefully, Thibs can learn to distribute the minutes a little better than he has so far.

My son and I went to the game tonight compliments of XRaySpecs! Thanks dude and great seats.
Despite the small crowd, Thibs was booed loudly during introductions and whenever it got somewhat quiet someone would scream Fire Thibs!
They really needed to win this first one without Jimmy. Love me some Okogie. He plays so hard and rebounds so well for wing.
I'm hopeful that Cov and Jaric will make huge difference by just adding two more legit players to our rotation. Optimist in me thinks that we could still make playoffs with improved chemistry, and if sum of parts with updated rotation better than pre-JimME trade.

Teague, post-game interview. Good stuff about Thibs's defensive scheme.

Don't think KAT will be the true focal point on this offense as long as Rose & Teague are both on the roster. Good to see him get more love but that should have been a game where he was set up to go for 40+.

He was getting fed in the post on a regular basis. If we hope to win any games this year, KAT can't be the only player doing anything on the court. I thought there was a pretty nice balance on the court last night, with every starter except Taj putting up double-digit shot attempts, and KAT probably would have had 40 points had he not turned the ball over 10 times.

What I didn't like about the game was that Teague and Wiggins were both coming off injuries and Thibs decided to play Teague for 34 minutes and Wiggins for 37 minutes. Wiggins is disengaged enough during the game that it may not matter, but Teague was working hard on both ends of the court and visibly limping several times. But Thibs just kept him out there anyway. Rose looked a little banged up too and ended up putting in 38 minutes. I don't see how our team can possibly stay healthy all year with Thibs running the show.

Starters had to be out there to get this on in the W column. The cynical guy in my does not want to buy the Teague/Wiggins "injuries". They could have been held out for trading purposes, and now that the trade is done, they are back in business. Rose is not going to give you a whole season. You ride him hard now and move on when he goes down with a season/career ending injury in a month or so...

Good to see him get more love but that should have been a game where he was set up to go for 40+. To be fair, KAT messed up a bunch of potential chances to score with offensive fouls/turnovers. I agree with the general point though. Rose is Rose. His 3 pt improvement can't be sustainable at near 50%. His form certainly looks better, but 50%? Even still, you still get what you get with him. If he's playing, he's going to be at the top or near the top in number of shots. I can't even believe the takes suggesting that Rose's "resurgence" means we're set at PG. Does anyone really think he's going to stay healthy long term? Maybe he does this year, but next year and the year after? I'll be interested to watch the Pelicans game on Wed. Their top guys in FGA per 36 are Davis, Mirotic and Randle so they're obviously finding a way to prioritize getting shots for their bigs. Could Saric follow a path similar to Mirotic? They're pretty similar as far as shooting for their first 3 years in the league. Mirotic seems like a better defender though. Hopefully Saric can develop in that regard.

The best thing about the trade is Wigs can move to the off guard and RC will play the 3. No more D Rose-Teague backcourt. The 2nd group with Tyus-D Rose should be able to hold it's own. Taj will help the 2nd unit too.
I've looked at a lot of film on Saric and he's really a talented guy. Plays with a lot of fire. Great passer, can run the floor too.
Can he rebound better than Taj is my big question? We need him to.

I thought there was a pretty nice balance on the court last night, with every starter except Taj putting up double-digit shot attempts, and KAT probably would have had 40 points had he not turned the ball over 10 times. It's not about KAT "doing everything". Obviously we want production from all of the players on the court. It's about threat. The biggest threat on the court with the Wolves is KAT. When he has the ball, the opposing teams' defense is pressured to defend him. They basically have to double, which makes other peoples' ability to contribute easier. Every other team in the league force feeds their best player(s). There is a reason LeBron is the ball-handler to close out games on any team he is on. He is the biggest threat on the court. Anthony Davis, for example, averages 17.7 FGAs this season, down from 19.3 last season and 20.3 the previous season. Towns' career high was 17.6 two seasons ago, 14.5 last season and 15.7 this season. Rose was 17.4 last season and 18.4 this season. I get the argument is that Rose is having a great year...and we are 5-9. When Rose is your best player, you are a .357 team and second to last in your conference. It's not about Towns getting points. It's about the offense flowing better when Towns is the focal point of the offense. I would personally love to see us play the 2008-09 Orlando Magic Finals offense. Put Towns in the middle with 4 shooters around him, give him the ball and let him break down his defender. If they double, find the open shooter. If they don't, Towns gets 2 points and probably a foul. But, Towns has a whole extra level that Dwight never had, cause he can come outside and play the pick-and-pop game like Kevin Love did. Towns needs to be the facilitator in that offense, though. It has to be about him getting space to work and getting the ball to force the defense to react. Hell, Towns has a good enough handle that I would run some reverse-pick-and-roll with him and Teague, where Teague sets the screen and Towns makes the drive. It would be hard for Towns' defenders not to get a foul "fighting through a screen" with Teague. Granted, Teague may end up in concussion protocol a few times during the season because of it, but if we can get their bigs in foul trouble, we should be trying to do that. It isn't about the points or even the actual amount of shots that Towns gets. It's that he can't be an afterthought in our offense if we are going to be successful. He has to be the feature. Everyone on the team is better the more he gets the ball. The defense has to change to accommodate him. Unfortunately, even if our offense got him more touches, I am not convinced our offense is set up to take advantage of the defense's reaction. We have the 3 point shooters now, but I am not sure Thibs will change his scheme. He may want Towns to try and go through the triple team like Rose would do.

Part of the challenge for whoever is coaching the Wolves is that the way the refs are calling the game currently allows perimeter players to blow past their defenders because the refs will call defender for clutching and grabbing slashing players. And they also let a lot of moving picks go.
On the other hand, they allow post defenders to manhandle and grab post up players like Towns when their back is to the basket. This makes posting up on the Block even less efficient than it already is. I saw this first-hand last night when the Nets were playing small ball and would double Towns with 2 wings and just grab the crap out of him. When Towns would try to make a move and turn towards basket they would call a charge.
Because this is the way the game is now and the way it is being called, The Greek Freak, for example - who plays a slashing game - has way more advantage than a post up player like Towns. Fortunately, Towns has a lot more offensive game than just posting up.
I don't know what the best solution is for an offensive scheme that maximizes Towns, but I do know that Ricky/Towns pick-and-roll or pick n pop surrounded by three other shooters would have worked.

If these were legit looks and he gunked up, not good...but I have seen a lot of spacing and positioning issues within the offense at times and the Wolves would KAT in a position to get the ball in a hard to execute spot. Not sure which it was last night...that said, I'm generally happy with the win but it's clear the season will be work in process.

LaVert's injury looked pretty tough. Feel really bad for himReally hated our 2 PG lineup on the defensive end in the first half. DRose, Tyus and Teague can't guard most of the 2's in this league....and so its pretty tough trying to play 2 of them together. I recorded the game and was able to go back an see it. I noticed that they showed no replays as they usually do. And for good reason. It looked like when you see stop action at the moment of a rolled ankle. Except it stayed that way as he sat on the floor. It was pretty gruesome. We get used to seeing appendages in certain positions and when they're not, it's awful to see.

Great news! I thought for sure it was a Hayward situation:
Adrian Wojnarowski@wojespn With only a dislocated right foot, Brooklyn's Caris LeVert is expected to return this season.

From Canis: Is it possible for a player to have 10 turnovers, and not be concerned about it? Going through the play by play: - 3 traveling calls (I remember 1 or 2 being questionable.)
- 2 3-second calls (As a former big, I can tell you it’s very frustrating to get into offensive rebounding position because you think a teammate is going to shoot, then have them pass up the shot, forcing you to either give up your position to get out of the lane or risk the 3 second call.)
- 2 lost balls
- 2 offensive fouls (At least one was questionable)
- 1 bad pass
