Believer in paying and funding good reporting, and I appreciate it is important for reporters to be with the team to get a feel for vibes, but like D-Lo last year, or Love’s hand, what good does it do when they just swallow it? It’s not like that trickles out to fans. I get the not burning sources, but if the truth with Love isn’t put to print, there’s never going to be anything behind the scenes more relevant to a team than that, so I don’t see what the benefit of having guys travel with them is?
Zgoda heavily hinted at it. That was about it. Makes no sense.

Bobcats tanked the year after Williams draft, and no one blinked to get dibs on Michael Kidd Gilchrist. If Bill Simmons had told me they were trying to win, to this day, I would walk around and talk about how bad they were because I can’t read.
I honestly could care less if teams win a game when tanking what’s the difference, we all know what they’re doing.
*****
If you recall, that Bobcats team set the record for the worst winning percentage in an NBA season after they went 7-59 for a 10.6 win percentage. That year’s Charlotte team lost its final 23 games of the season, meaning Bobcats fans had to go from March 17, 2012, until Nov. 2, 2012, without seeing their team win a single game.

Just caught a snippet of Russillo's take on KD, he cites Durant and Simmons as guys who signed and then asked out immeditately.
First guy to do that, and then lie about breaking his hand, and shit on his team, so the whole league knows he's out was the Staypuft Matador himself. Kevin Love.
Not only did they not kill him for it in the media, they actively ran cover to bury that team. Wolves fans should care not because it's Kahn versus Love, that decision impacted what that team was able to do.
Again they shop Love, Schwartz leaks it via Woj immediately. The true story about Kevin Love making a huge fart storm about being five year designated max (clearly wasn't), and then lying to fans and teammates about it, while doing a interview calling them all garbage makes it much more palatable to move Love, and sell high.
It really, really matters how that was spun.

Britt from last week: The best and worst trades in Minnesota Timberwolves franchise history
3rd Best: 3. Spread the Love, hold the MayoOn draft night of 2008, the Wolves and the Memphis Grizzlies pulled off a blockbuster eight-player deal. The Wolves had taken guard OJ Mayo third overall. The Grizzlies had selected forward Kevin Love two picks later. Those were the principals. The Wolves filled in the edges with Greg Buckner, Marko Jaric and Antoine Walker. The Grizzlies sent Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins along with Love to Minnesota. Miller was supposed to be the plum that enriched the swap enough to make it Mayo for Love. But Miller had a bizarre career in Minnesota, eschewing the gun-slinging that had won him a Sixth Man of the Year award in favor of too many passes and proclivity for seeming injured and limping to the sidelines, only to magically return moments later. The Wolves decisively won the trade because of Love, who was treated shabbily by new President of Basketball Operations David Kahn after McHale (who engineered the trade) was fired. It took a whopping 30-point, 30-rebound game from Love before Kahn finally conceded he belonged in the starting lineup. He proceeded to put up pinball-game numbers and was a three-time All Star during his six seasons in Minnesota: He still ranks third in total win shares behind KG and Karl-Anthony Towns in franchise history. He also deserves a hat tip for being attractive enough to Lebron James and his return to Cleveland that the Cavs traded Andrew Wiggins and other assets to Minnesota even though Love made no secret that he was soon opting out of his contract in Minnesota. That send-away deal is an honorable mention among the Wolves best trades.www.minnpost.com/sports/2023/12/the-best-and-worst-trades-in-minnesota-timberwolves-franchise-history-kevin-garnett-rudy-gobert/

So sorry, but nothing happened to tank Love's trade value.
He came back from the hand injury to have an All-Star season, lead the Wolves to their best record in 10 years and had enough value (even though we knew he wasn't resigning) to garner the #1 overall pick, a 2nd 1st round pick and the previous year's (bad) #1 pick.

Kahn would have had a very difficult time trading Love given the trash factory hyping him, but also without that story.
He could not shop him, and because it's leaked before he even has the convo.
Love (I have a potty mouth)ed that team over. Fans deserve the truth.

Did you mean to post in PKHPP? Yup. It was getting too thick even for me to not interject. But that's a good point. I should move it to your other "trash Kevin Love" thread since I don't think many others come in here.

I guess I would like to know why a real reporter, who was around the team wouldn't report it even today?
Are they afraid of Woj?
It is a story, that would generate traffic, for those who attempt to do that. Not to mention great fodder for the pod world.

Think of the fodder?!!!
It's the single biggest Wolves event until the Rudy deal. And the entire national media buried us.

Because nobody else cares about it... If you're a Love fronter, probably not, but Wolves fandom overall would definitely like to know, and ping pong on it for a while.

It's a nothing story.
At best you'll see someone every few years on a message board say "I wonder what really happened with Love's broken hand", and then its as quickly forgotten.
Because no one really cares.
It would be as impactful a story as a new piece on Taylor Heinicke severing a tendon in his foot while attempting to kick in a window to get himself and his friend back into the friend's locked apartment.

Why would Wolves reporters still sit on this? I get why Woj, Schwartz, Love, Simmons, and Lowe won't revisit creators of The Horde.
It's one of the most interesting Minnesota pro sports stories we ever had, just because some folks would have drafted Cousins (also wrong), does not mean Kahn and that team should have been should have be targeted, nothing even close has happened before or sense. The league wouldn't even let this happen now.

At best you'll see someone every few years on a message board say "I wonder what really happened with Love's broken hand", and then its as quickly forgotten. It's got to be in print. Real story for it it pop. I do believe national heads may gloss over because many of them participated, but this was a huge, huge deal when it happened. It changes everything from we could have moved Love, to fans say well 2012-13 was full of injuries (which was not acknowledge basically until GS got hurt, and Kings were healthy last year). If it's true it lands flat, that's cool to. Why not find out?

Why even have reporters if they're not going cover the most important story that happened to this team?
Do we need local writers to make predictions, and tell us which ones they got right?
Most impactful Wolves story until the Rudy trade, and they sit on it, what is the point of sending them with the team then? Zoom questions work just as well for fans if all were getting is post game.
We got more detail on Ant's insta baby than a story that actually matters.

Dude on bad team breaks his hand. Misses a bunch of games. World goes on. You know that's not true. The world spent the previous year arguing about whether or not to give him the designated max, and destroyed Wolves. This is everything to that team. We killed the rest of that team, to protect a guy, who is among the worst teammates of all-time, and could not wait to get out of Minny.

Reporters should be banned in locker rooms and have to field questions from the Mega Mall. There's no point in them, they do nothing.

Nail in what was arguably the greatest processing team of all time. Which really only existed because of two full years of people nailing us intentionally misframing what we all know now as processing.

Maybe someone could write down the truth in a hat, we mix it up will several fake stories, and I can read them all at half-time and have fans decide what to believe.

One of the fake one's will be Kahn once compared himself to the LeBron of gm's, and it hurt Love's feelings so much, he does that piece with Woj after just signing an extension by the way. The thing a lot of those national guys shit on Durant, Simmons, Harden for doing, or back then Dwight and Melo.
Another one will be, Darko accidentally ate two submarine sandwhiches, and Kevin didn't think that was fair, breaks his hand on a stove pipe, and has to lie about it, because we had to caudle him in a way normally reserved for baby dolphins born with one fin, and no snout, who can't protect themselves.
Lot of spin for Mr. Love.
