My guess is the repeater tax scares the FO more than the Apron penalties.

My guess is the repeater tax scares the FO more than the Apron penalties. Of course that would only come into play in 25-26. That’s another 2 cap increases away and even if they are still in the tax, they could find a way to reduce the amount. Maybe they work a deal where Rudy opts out and signs a 3 year deal with a lower first year. I’m thinking they could live with$50M tax per year for the next couple years if they are contenders. That should be doable even with the current roster outside of SloMo.

My guess is the repeater tax scares the FO more than the Apron penalties. If that’s the main concern, LoRod can totally just ask Glen to look KAT in the eye before they decide to keep him or not. #secretweapon

The team has Conley’s bird rights, he’s made a ton of money in his career, and where else does he have a better chance to win? The team’s only real need is a starting caliber, true point guard before Conley breaks down completely - which should be a number one priority this season/offseason. So then, if we’re really just talking about a decision between prime KAT and the ability to re-sign Slo-Mo to a new contract this offseason, I’m thanking Slo -mo for his service and choosing prime KAT 10 times out of 10. This was a good post Rah because it forced me to do a bit of digging and actually look at the penalties for 2nd apron and not rely on what I've heard. Here is a list of the penalties of being in the 2nd apron: -Teams will no longer be able to use the taxpayer mid-level exception. This is an issue as when you are capped out this is usually one of the best ways to add players during the offseason. We havent added really good players with this because we've always sucked but think about how players have signed for MLE with teams that are supposed to contend for a championship. Sure maybe they'd rather sign with a bad Lakers team becuase..hey..LA. But I'd hate to take ourselves out of that market just because we dont think anyone will want to come to cold Minnesota. -If a team remains in the second apron three out of five seasons, their first-round pick will automatically move to the end of the round, beginning next season. So the fact that this is 3 out of 5 seasons makes me a little less nervous because I think there may be ways to avoid the apron enough in a 5 year period...but not sure. I don't know what they mean by "beginning the next season". I assume it is the season after they hit the 3x in the 3 out of 5 seasons. -First-round picks seven years out — a valuable asset for capped-out contenders — cannot be traded beginning next season.Once again.."beginning next season". I assume that to mean that if we are in the 2nd apron in 2024-25...in 2025-26 we cannot trade a pick 7 years out. Since the writer of where I got this said this is a valuable asset for capped out teams...I assume this is a big deal. But since we've never been in this position...not sure -Salaries cannot be aggregated or combined to trade for a single player making more money. To me...this is the biggie. And I think its pretty damn huge. If we use this year as an example, we need some 3 point shooting. Mainly because our best 3 point shooter wont shoot 3 pointers. If we wanted to make a trade for Doug McDermott for example to bolter our 3 point shooting, if Doug is making 13.7 million this year, we cant trade 2 players making 6 and 7 million each. If it were this year, we could only trade Anthony Edwards or Naz Reid to pick him up because they are the ones making around that 13 million mark. This is a big deal. - Teams can’t use trade exceptions created from a prior year. -Teams can no longer use cash in trades.I'm combining the last 2 because I really don't know how much this would affect the team because its not something we usually do. WE've also had mostly stupid GM's for most of our existence so to say that we wont do something because we haven't done it in the past is kind of silly. We now have a capable GM so "how" we do things may be completely different. I don't like to see us being limited to what we can do. We have to look at how winning teams in the past used the items above to their advantage to improve or maintain good teams. I don't think we should trade KAT this year but call me unconvinced that we're going to see a KAT that somehow gets rid of all his flaws come playoff time and turns into a big difference maker. I'd love to be proven wrong however.

They have options. I still like grabbing Jones for Naz. I think we have corner three’s with Troy, Naw, McD, Ant, Mike, Miller, plus I think it’s among the single most replaceable skills in the NBA unlike above the break/top of the key. Then you have Conley, Jones, and Kyle, up at the end of the year, might be able to pay all three. I don’t care about Kyle’s shooting, because that’s not really what we need him for anyway. But I do think McD is possibly where the most value could be found interms of swapping him for more cost effective options. It’s possible Kat’s game ages better than we think, slowing down on his drives might force him into the simpler play. He’ll be able to post and shoot for several years.

Yes, I was trying to be funny AND sarcastic. I'm saying for the 1000th time you find another way money wise. Why is that so hard to understand? Or you pay the tax. If you want to win it all you keep your best players.
I'll drop my attitude when I stop hearing idiotic trade Kat ideas because we're short of money.
I’m with Nick on this one. #paythetax Here are my top five reasons: 1. I’m a fan, not an owner. It’s not my money, why do I care? 2. I’m also not managing the budget, so why do I care? 3. This team has won two playoff series since 1989 4. Those two playoff series wins happened the same year 5. The Warriors pay $170M in tax for years and have rings… Thanks, You so get it.

54 pts by the bench!! Huge. Rudy monster night again. 16 pts 20 rebs and 6 blks. Towns had an off night with 24-7 and 5. Time to trade the bum.
We are 17 and 4 this year. Isn't that something? 7 and 3 on the road.
Oh Yea, TB Jr. with 20-4-4. What a great signing he has turned out to be.
Once again....Towns shot 2 for 4 on 3 pointers. 50% clip. He took 4 threes. Obviously they won so it all worked out..but in general...are you good with this every night Nick? Im not. And its the usual line with him these days. At this point I put this on Finch as they need to be running some action to get him more 3's or Finch needs to be saying "you need to take more 3's...period". I'm not saying "trade the bum" (right now) but its like he has a super power that he refuses to use to help the team. I'm just asking for a better mix of drives vs 3's. I'd like to see Kat shoot 10 3's a game. Don't blame Kat, blame Finch. Things are working out well so far with his limited shooting. There is only one basketball and they want to play a team game. Ball seems a lot less sticky with Any out. Just sayin.

From Jake Paynting:
Karl-Anthony Towns: 10/10
I’m just gonna keep firing these 10s off like (I have a potty mouth)ing Oprah. Towns’ isn’t the loudest 10 in the world, he’s just remarkably solid and everything the team needed to fill in the gaps between the role player stardom. Whenever Memphis attempted to peel themselves off the canvas, he was there to land another punch to their glass jaw.
Whether it was a catch-and-shoot triple or a barreling drive resulting in a finish at the rim or a trip to the free throw line, he was a consistent relief valve for the offense. A constant punch. He’s been impressively reliable in every game without Anthony Edwards and even more impressively composed. He’s so often been a puzzle of a player, now he’s a wonderfully painted masterpiece.
Finished with 24 points (66.8% TS), 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes — +28.3 net rating. -------------------------
I love it!
