Look at how fragile team chemistry can be. D'Antoni could do no wrong last year. What a difference a year makes.
"Rockets guard Eric Gordon admits this season has been a shock to the system for him and his teammates, as he told Kelly Iko of The Athletic. He also insinuated that coach Mike D’Antoni has made some mistakes with his personnel. “I’m just not having fun man,” Gordon said. “I’m just not. This (stinks). Even the times where I have good games. We’re just not using some guys the right way. Are we gonna make the right sacrifices? Do we have the right attitude? Last year was the best year I’ve ever had being a part of a team. We just never had a bad moment.”
Not using some of the guys the right way?? Just think of how the Wolves have felt since day 1 with Thibs as coach.

It won't surprise me after the Thibs era is over we find out he did exactly that and Taylor ignored him. I don't care for Thibs, but he did try to trade Andrew and was vetoed by Taylor. Which tells me he doesn't have much faith in Wiggins as part of this team's core. I've heard that too. And if so...add that to Thibs positive. He evaluated the talent potential there and tried to avoid the issue we have today. That being said....there is still a difference between "not trading him" and "signing him a year early to a max extention". If he truly thought that Wiggins was not going to be worth a max, he should have persuaded Glen to at least wait a year and then match offers that came. They werent going to lose him and Glen literally had nothing to lose. Thibs could/should have convinced Glen to do that. We don't know if Taylor had it in his mind to give him the max regardless of what was said/encouraged by the FO. My hunch is that Taylor saw Wiggins as a cornerstone and worth the investment despite all evidence to the contrary. I do think, in general, Thibs/Layden have been slightly better at the front office side of it (although there have been some dumb decisions like extending Dieng at that rate *and* adding Taj) than the coaching side.

Welp, signing Melo to a contract wasn't exactly an analytically smart move by Morey either (not to mention giving a point guard who is on the wrong side of 30 *that* contract)...the Rockets look old, tired, slow, boring...it's not a D'Antoni system at all.
