Rudy Gobert said he had a conversation with Naz Reid in the 3rd quarter:
"In the 3rd quarter I came to him and said, '(I have a potty mouth) what's happening, (I have a potty mouth) what happened if you miss a shot, if you get fouled or anything. Just free your mind and just be you and just embrace the moment, enjoy the moment and I promise you you gonna make some plays'. And he did."
Reid entered the 4th quarter with 2 points, 3 turnovers and the Nuggets had outscored the Wolves by 12 in his 14 minutes on the floor. In the 4th quarter, Reid had 14 points, was 6/7 from the field and the Wolves won his minutes by 5 points.

I told my son that I actually like it when we are down a couple of points at half as it seems to fuel us in the 2nd half of these games. Ant continues to prove that he is the real deal. Amazing.

Another positive is we won despite no offense from McD and little from NAW, SloMo, or Rudy. Those guys can all have big games on any given night. Add to that the refs basically and wrongly giving the Nugs a few possessions. There were four that I could point to that replay proved the refs wrong, not to mention the opening tip call on Kat or Ant's tech. I thought we were doomed when it only took them 2 seconds to give that one to Kat. That's not to say there were none going our way, but it sure seemed like the refs tried to help the nugs.

A lot of talking heads are throwing the Jordan comparison out there and I grew up watching Jordan. We didn't have the wolves yet and I had WGN and TBS so I watched either Jordan or Wilkins almost every night. I've never seen similarities until last night. Some of his turn arounds were nearly identical. The officiating was decent last night, aside from almost every 50/50 call going against the wolves (kat had an and-1 on the breakaway dunk where he wasn't fouled was the only one I can recall). Denver was sloppy. Wolves got lucky when Reid banked it that 3 as it seemed to give him a boost. Wolves should be fully acclimated to the altitude by game 2 (not sure when they arrived to Denver) and if they just keep the defensive pressure, I like their chances. They are such a complete team.

I didnt think the refs were a huge issue but as you say, the Nugs got every questionable call. This was the first game I've watched with the non Ballys team and what is frustrating is that they dont show replays of the fouls. I'd have loved to have seen a replay of that first foul on KAT or some of the other fouls that occurred. Maybe thats a directive from the NBA because it creates controversy against the refs. So in a sense I can see that. I do believe though that Ant is going to start getting some of these calls that we see Superstarz getting. He is going to be the best player in the game.

Got back early this morning from Denver. That. Was. Awesome!
I don't have a lot to compare to, but I see now why Target Center is outdated. There are so many more lower bowl seats at these other arenas compared to upper deck. We decided to splurge for tickets as I wasn't flying out there to sit in the upper deck. Our seats were in the 2nd row behind the Wolves bench and it was awesome! Alan Horton came up to us in the hallway after seeing our Wolves gear and introduced himself. Super nice guy. Karl Towns Sr. dapped me up after the game. A nice little grouping of Wolves fans in our little area was fun to see. There was a family of 5 who flew in from Kansas City in front of us with three small girls. They all had signs and were leading cheers. There was a pair of Sixers fans in front of us that flew in because they wanted to go to an out of state game, love Ant, and it was way cheaper to fly to Denver and get good seats than go to a possible game 7 in NY. We got them rooting for the Wolves full on! There was a SUPER annoying Nuggets fan a few rows back who had the loudest voice I've ever heard...he left early!
The game was amazing. Such a roller coaster. We jumped out early and then had to endure their crowd go wild as they stormed back. The 2nd quarter was crucial as we stayed in contact even though no one besides Ant (and a little from KAT) showed up in the first half. The 2nd half was vintage Wolves this year as different guys stepped up. KAT led the initial charge and then passed the baton to Conley. Conley tagged Naz into the 4th quarter and Ant was just there the whole time guiding us to then put the hammer down with Naz in the 4th quarter.
Going into this series, I already pretty much felt this season was vindicated with how we beat PHX. Losing to the champs in the 2nd round won't invalidate what a fun season this has been. I went to game 1 truly being ok whether we won or lost so it was going to be a great experience either way. It just got better and better though. We took game 1! So glad to be a Wolves fan.

Some of his turn arounds were nearly identical. I completely get the comparison to Jordan in how they look when they play. How they play and produce? Not as much. Different eras, but Jordan was just so dominant that it's unfair to anyone to put that on them as such a young age. I've always thought that Ant's play/production is more like a cross between Kobe and Wade. If he looks like Jordan while he plays like a fusion of those two, I'll be just fine with that. What else can you say about Ant. Just amazing what he's doing at age 22. I'm getting DWade vibes from 2006 when Wade carried the Heat to the title. As a package, Ant reminds me of Kirby Puckett with how his fusion of play, personality, and leadership just elevate the team. It's like the rest of the team just plays like they know they can do it because they have Ant on their side. Puckett had that same persona in 87 and 91.

Joker gets away with murder. If you called it on Joker the same way they call it on Towns, Joker would be gone in the first quarter.

When Glen put millions into TC a few years ago it was like putting lipstick on a pig. He spent the money too much on cosmetics.
Oh, loved the loud Denver fan leaving early with his tail between his legs. :)

Ant is much more Kobe/Wade comp. MJ was never a great jump shooter by any means. He had a high FG% because of his unparalleled ability to drive and get to the basket. Not because of his shooting.
Ant does get MJ/Kobe defensive comps but Jordan was the best defender I ever saw when he wanted to be. Who knows, Ant might be better than any of them when it is said and done.
Nobody has a better personality than Ant!! Kobe wasn't bad but Ant is the man!

I also like the outdated TC comment. When Glen put millions into TC a few years ago it was like putting lipstick on a pig. He spent the money too much on cosmetics. It was literally all he could do. No amount of money in the world could've improved it more - other than completely demolishing it and building something new. Target Center doesn't have the infrastructure or footprint to add modern amenities. And that's not Glen's fault either. TC was once state-of-the-art, but its the 2nd oldest arena in the NBA (behind only MSG). A lot has changed in the arena landscape in 34 years. As much as you hate Taylor, you have to give him credit on this one. He easily could've tried to hold the city hostage for a much needed new arena, but instead, he paid for half of the renovations himself and has not once complained about being in an outdated arena without the extra revenue streams a newer one would bring in. Glen's piece was originally closer to 50M, but he wanted to do a lot more and he ate all the additional costs without asking the city to up their stake:

Good. That was an absolutely bogus T to begin with. Made it worse when Murray didn't get one for doing the finger guns at KAT.

Maybe the things I thought he could have done weren't possible. I don't know.
Remember I've stood up for Taylor since day 1. Through all of his bad decisions. His renege on this deal is what really soured me on him. I'm disappointed he's what many people have been saying for years. I feel a little foolish supporting him. He should have stuck with the deal regardless instead of reneging on a technicality. I don't call that good or smart business.

I don't think Jordan did what he did as young as ANT but it has been a decade or more so memory is fuzzy.

Denver has to be feeling the heat really bad. NAW, Jaden both had terrible scoring games, Conley and Naz and Gobert scored but not near their normal numbers (I think) and the only ones to show up were KAT and ANT. There were some critical makes (Naz banking in the 3 pointer) that were key but our team (as a group) wasn't firing on all cylinders and we still beat Denver in Denver. I really really hope we win the next game because Denver is capable of taking one on our home court to balance the series but if we win another the series is ours. Also helps us to rest up for Denver or OKC.

I really really hope we win the next game because Denver is capable of taking one on our home court to balance the series but if we win another the series is ours. Also helps us to rest up for Denver or OKC. Listened to the DNVR Nuggets podcast and they mostly thought the Wolves had played near their peak. There was a sentiment that Denver took our best shot with them not playing well and they only lost by 7.
In terms of Ant, they're probably right. He was very near his peak. It's not reasonable to expect him to score 43 on that level of shooting every game. Obviously we think they're wrong on the rest of it. KAT produced pretty much as expected when he was out there (had the predictable foul trouble), but Jaden, NAW and Kyle didn't do anything offensively. Gobert didn't have a great game offensively. Morris isn't playing much, but he's 0-8 from 3 in the playoffs. 1 or 2 of those guys are going to score more. It's not like the guys that did play well in the 2nd half aren't good players. Naz has had big quarters plenty of times and in general him getting 16 isn't wild at all. Conley having 14 or whatever is not unexpected. My point is that it's very possible for the Wolves to play at the same level collectively even if Ant isn't in God mode.
Don't get me wrong, the Nuggets are a great team. The Wolves have to play really well to beat them. We've been sticking right there with them though since the 2nd half of game 2 vs them last year. I hope we come out for blood in game 2 and put them on notice that it's our time. Let's go up 2 games and then blow the roof of target center on Friday!

didn't realize Morris is 0-8 from 3. Jordan M has been lights out from 3 this year, and brings tempo (which the Wolves did not seem to have in game 1...maybe due to the alitude?). But Finch seems to trust Morris more with those limited back-up PG minutes.

Am I missing something in the rules book? Jokic in particular, but many others get away with push offs to clear space again and again. Jokic does it nearly every time he tries to clear space. I thought extending the off arm in the push was the unacceptable part. But they don't get called. In general, the wolves don't do that, at least to the extent Denver does, probably because they don't get away with it.

I see delusional hopes started to creep in peoples minds... these are the NBA standing champs we are talking about here! On their own court! At high altitude! The game after they lost home court advantage! They haven't lost consecutive games at home in ages... beating them again is probably going to be as easy as cancelling an eclipse! They will come out firing like crazy! If MIN fall behind early, the game will be really hard to turn around! Fans will be rabid. If you thought the refs were rough last time, you might be surprised tonight... the league has very interest in extending these series as long as possible! DEN will not go down 0-2 at home! Let's hope no significant injuries and/or suspensions happen tonight!
MIN's small hope would be to keep the game close until the second half of the fourth quarter and then try to steal it somehow (assuming they still have five players who haven't fouled out up to that point). OT might be a thing tonight... and that might not be a good thing if you are a MIN fan!

Ant does it quite often, almost always on his turn around and I can't recall him being called for it. Kat and gobert get called for it quite often. However, Denver as a team does it pretty frequently. Phoenix did it a lot too, but because of their star power, it wasn't called.

Glad to hear you had a great time. Good to hear the arena comps too. As Levine points out, Glen did what he could do to target center. It was a nice arena when built but even then it was built on the cheap by Harv and Marv. So its not going to age as well as some other older ones might. We will need a new arena. Thats when I stop my season tickets after 19 years as it'll be too expensive and I'll lose my one of a kind great seats. (they maybe arent one of a kind....but i doubt there are any more than a very few places in the arena set up like my seats.) The season is already a success...but now its time to be greedy. We probably wont have a stronger team next year than this one so lets see how far we can go.
