That was a disappointing loss. But, I can't really fault Thibs the coach for this one. I think our guys came to play...the effort on the 2nd night of a back-to-back was there. I just think this is what happens when a team trades talent (like Rubio) for cap space. And when we trade a top talent like Butler for role players like RoCo and Dario Kat is a beast. He needs better guys surrounding him. I feel a KG 2.0 situation developing. I miss the real Jim Pete....listening to him gushing over Tyus tonight like he is an all-star was painful to hear. I'm sure the team told JPete that he needs to be more positive...but I REALLY miss hearing real commentary and not over-the-top praise because a PG made a good pass. Tyus had 13 assists and 0 turnovers. He was great tonight. We got very little from the bench tonight.

Man, Jrue would be PERFECT starting next to Tyus in the backcourt. Don't give the Pelicans any ideas this offseason...

But with all the over-the-top praise jimpete was dishing out for Tyus, Kat & Wiggins - you’d have thought the wolves were beating the Pelicans by 40.

I haven’t been following those stats but by just watching the games - The difference in RoCo’s defense the first few games after he arrived in Minnesota to his defense since coming back from that injury is night and day. Is he still hurt? Was he playing way over his head when he first arrived here? Is his energy level spent? He just seems a step slower and having a harder time keeping guys in front of him. Our perimeter defense last night wasn’t great - our guys on the perimeter didn’t provide much resistance on drives - nor were they quick enough to get out and effect the 3 pointers

Thibs scheme allows no one to defend the 3. People are quick to blame individual players but defense is a team thing unless a player is a total matador man to man.

Tyus deserved the praise last night. What you maybe are missing is I think this is Jim Petes way of making the point that Tyus should remain with this ball club and be given more minutes. I have no problem with Jim Petes praise. I have more of a problem of his over the top praise for Rose. That said..I think we missed Rose last night. His scoring on the 2nd unit would have helped immensely. Problem woudl be that he wouldnt be on the 2nd unit...and thats on Thibs.

He's also playing a career high in minutes (for a guy who only once has played more than 70 games), and his knee is still clearly bothering him. I actually hope that his ankle or whatever he hurt last night keeps him out a few games. He needs the rest and recovery.

I don't think we missed Rose as much as we missed having an NBA caliber back-up PG. That's the reason Tyus doesn't have a better career record as a starter. The dropoff to guys like Bayless and Brooks is far too steep to recover from. Start Tyus next year with a competent back-up and we'll be more than fine at PG.

One of the things that absolutely bugs me the most about Thibs is his mixed up mentality. I really came to this conclusion while watching the game last night after Thibs called a timeout while we had a 5-4 advantage. He is much more comfortable giving up an open 3 and making teams beat us from the outside than giving up a layup. In his mind I think that he thinks it's weak and bad defense if the guy is able to get a look close to the basket even though it's only a 2 point basket versus if a guy hits a 3 it's more of a "we'd rather have him take that shot, it's a lower percentage look." Notice he throws much bigger fits when a guy gets a layup versus a three. I think this translates to his offensive schemes too. He wants to find the highest percentage looks – paint shots. That's why we continually see so many post ups and drives to the lane, trying to get those higher percentage looks and make the defense look weak. He is just so backwards on this though. This is not where the league is and not where the league will be. The concept of 3>2 is what teams are grasping right now, except Thibs. He hasn't done anything to show that he's grasping this concept either. He signed a great 3pt shooter in Tolliver but refuses to play him. The results are that we are still near the bottom of the league in attempts and are still losing games because he can't adapt. The fact that Glen can't see this is so disappointing.

That's a good way of explaining it. The game really has passed him by. Thibs recently said we have 11 starters on our team yet he only plays 9. If you have 11 starters find a way to play 11. Guys might be tired or are having an off night.
Look at how much better Tyus is playing when getting steady minutes. He's starting to feel it now and it shows in his play. It's got to be super tough to sit on the bench then come in and be expected to play like an all-star.
After watching the game last night it was disappointing that we just flat out got beat down the stretch. We had a 9 pt lead early in the 4th and let it go. We just flat out got beat. We made the mistakes. We missed the shots and theirs dropped.
