Why wouldn't they do this to Deng and keep someone who might be able to help the team.

Why wouldn't they do this to Deng and keep someone who might be able to help the team. Because of the way Nunnally's contract was structured. Cutting him now takes us off the hook for the rest of his money owed.

Cutting him now takes us off the hook for the rest of his money owed. I get that part but he may have been an actual decent contributor. I would rather him taking a roster spot than Deng.

I would rather him taking a roster spot than Deng. I think they can still resign him though. I think a lot of teams cut guys before their contract becomes fully guaranteed.
