Set to begin November 4th. It is fraud if this take more than five minutes. If I'm Glen I just walk in there and say so what's the skibby? I'd sue every lawyer involved and start charging for diet cokes.
No updates yet, but can link those here. I do not care what happens, but I do think NBA is missing a golden opportunity by not making a reality show, and giving the winner a briefcase full of money on prime time television, or voting someone off the island.

I dont know that people realize how important this decision is. I also dont understand why reporters havent dug more into why Connelly extended his "opt out" by 1 year. One has to assume that Connelly is hoping that LoRod win the battle for ownership. Is it just a ploy to get more money? Or does he truly want to bail if Glen wins? If Glen wins, thats when things could start going the normal "way of the Wolves": -Glen wins -LoRod sells their stake in the team -Connelly (hired by LoRod) takes his opt out and moves onto greener and more stable pastures -Glen picks a new President of basketball operations and we are back to 2010 and David Kahn. -Insert all kinds of bad things here in the next few years which end up with Ant requesting a trade.

I think it was Windhorst who had a mention that Lo-Rod's camp is moving as if they know they'll win. They've compiled their finances and have liquid capital ready to maintain the team's structure and payroll.
I have zero legal experience, but I just don't know how Lo-Rod doesn't win here. It seems like Glen has finally had a bad deal catch up to him and he's trying to weasel his way out.

Its almost entertaining watching you pine for some the worst front offices, coaches and players this team has had in decades, all while damning the most successful group this franchise has had since 2003. I get that you really want to win only on your own terms to seem smarter than everyone else, but that's not reality.

I heard the same Windhorst pod I think and it sounds like they've got everything ready to go to just immediately buy out the rest of Glen's stake.

I would have preferred the Timberwolves won last year.
It'd be great if Naz takes a leap, or McD, or Dillingham, but it remains to be seen. The league can change fast, if we think about just since D-Lo was here. New CBA (so it's not a handful of top heavy super spenders), maybe undoing FOM which people weren't really even aware of until last year, but it's looking more like basketball again. Less enthused about the Vegas Cup but it's fine. Top of the west is competitive, but I think still up for grabs.
I would let Randle know that if he doesn't fit the Miracle Man's system he gone. He has the skills to do it, it's much more about the conflict of what the Wolves want him to be, versus what he can still be in this league/last big pay day. "Hey Julius how do you feel about taking on filling that Taurean Prince role? Maybe some back-up five we'll see."
DK would be fine today now that we know how to handle the narrative warriors.

"Hey Julius how do you feel about taking on filling that Taurean Prince role? Maybe some back-up five we'll see." This is why you get so much pushback. You just make up shit and present it as facts.

Facts are feelings!
Just trying to keep Julius in the loop.
It’s a premonition only basketball savants like me and DK, and JJ Redick who didn’t know about FOM despite still playing in the league when it happened might conclude.

So your "feeling" is that Finch will use Randle as a spot-up shooter because he can't be trusted to dribble or pass the ball?

My feeling is Randle gets moved at the end of this year.
From everything I am hearing he’s a point guard.
Randle is good I’m just confused Finch doesn’t know how to make offense pop with Kat but has this Randle thing down. We do have more trad ballhandlers though so maybe progress?

Darko, you really are the confused one. No problem there. I assure you Finch knows exactly what he will do with Randle. That's why they traded for him. Randle gives us a totally different look especially with DiVincenzo. I love KAT because he's an exceptionally skilled big but Randle will fit better with Rudy and DiVincenzo gives us more versatile shooting. And then there is the apron situation.
I've warmed up to the trade. I think we could be a better team overall because of it. I have a hard time believing they traded for Randle to move him by the end of the year.

I guess Finch hasn't had time to put the defense in yet.

End of the season (provided no injuries) we will be the better team. Love Kat but his game didn't match very well with who we have. Randle is just a better fit and to DiVincenzo and a 1st as well. Not sure what NY was thinking.

Getter by back to ownership I agree that local media are staying away from this story like a leper. I guess they don’t want to be perceived as coming down on one side if the other wins. But shouldn’t be that hard to write or cover a piece laying out some scenarios. I think it’s interesting that after the hearing the panel has a month to decide. That’s more than ample time for deal making.

That’s more than ample time for deal making. I feel like there isn't that much to discuss but maybe I'm off. A judge/arbitrator/whoever is going to hear both sides and they'll have to be an opening of books which are likely not public now and not reportable. Decision is made and then it's up to the owners potentially to green light a sale if LoRod wins. Part of the problem is this situation is so uniquely Glen and comically stupid there is no precedent in sports history of something like this occurring. Agree to a sale you decided after a year you didn't really want to do, start throwing shade to your local sources about them not having cash, try to intentionally sabotage it by saying the deal is off entirely despite contracts that have been signed. I fully think he planned this 2 year stagger of a deal so he could weasel out if he wanted to. Please go away now. I do think the cash eventually came together late which isn't a great look. But based on the NBA's rules and how they can involve Private Equity and other minority money, I don't see how this doesn't meet the standards of the agreement other than Glen realizes he's losing a lot of cash and wants to have his name attached to the franchise still that is actually good for the first time in 20 years.

Per Shams on Pat McAfee's show today, it sounds like Lo-Rod has around $950 million in a JP Morgan account ready to fully buy Glen out once they win arbitration. Shams said it's likely we'll know who the owners are in a month or so.

LOS ANGELES — As the Minnesota Timberwolves begin arguably the most anticipated season in franchise history, the long-running battle for ownership of the team is approaching an important moment. The arbitration hearings between current owner Glen Taylor and prospective owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez are Nov. 4, just under two weeks after the Wolves open the season on Tuesday night in Los Angeles against the Lakers. As the hearings approach, Lore and Rodriguez are positioning themselves to be ready to immediately purchase full ownership of the team, should things break their way, league sources told The Athletic. When Taylor first reached an agreement with Lore and Rodriguez on a step-by-step purchase of the team, he envisioned a scenario in which the third payment would give Lore and Rodriguez controlling interest in the Timberwolves and the Lynx of the WNBA. Taylor would remain on as a limited partner with a 20 percent holding. But Lore and Rodriguez’s ownership group has $940 million in an escrow account that will be used to immediately buy out Taylor entirely should the two prevail in arbitration, league sources said. Lore and Rodriguez have assembled a deep-pocketed group that includes heavyweight minority investors like former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. They have been working on plans for a new arena and other improvements should the arbitration panel rule in their favor. www.nytimes.com/athletic/5864229/2024/10/22/marc-lore-alex-rodriguez-full-ownership-timberwolves/

The way I hope it goes is after the hearing Glen gets wind he might lose and agrees to a settlement where he gets to keep a slice of ownership to save face.

I think Glen burned that bridge way too much for that to happen. I think he even knows it isn't likely he will win arbitration. He thought throwing a few million dollars into contesting the sale was worth the chance to make a couple extra billion dollars or so.

There's no way they let Glen stick around if they win at arbitration. If Glen wins, I assume the Lore and ARod try to sell their current stake. It could be hard as any buyer wouldn't have a guaranteed path to controlling ownership, but they'll still get interest. LoRod could use the proceeds as the basis for different team acquisition.

I could be wrong but this arbitration is not the final say is it? Usually it's binding arbitration but I'm not so sure here. I have a hard time believing Glen wins considering LORODs legal team. Glen has nothing to lose except his reputation. It doesn't seem like he even cares about it. Glen is all about the $.

I'm not sure this is a case that would be appealed forever. What would change?
Lore-Rod preparing for all these things if they win, I'd like to hear more about what they're doing if they lose. I'd like Wachtell to do a story where they say if they lose Alex plans to go on Dancing with the Stars or Love Island (which is or sounds like a reality show).
