What an awful game. I'm usually a blame the players guy moreso than coaching (or at least I acknowledge that it's a players league), but this was the worst game Finch has coached that I can remember. The players certainly didn't help as everyone had bad stretches, but subbing Conley back in for the last 3 minutes was coaching malpractice IMO. Conley was awful the whole game. He was actively hurting the team with his poor shooting leading to him not even wanting to shoot. TOs too. And how big of a hindrance is it when your PG can't bring the ball up the court due to pressure? Like what are we doing?
Meanwhile NAW is one of the few guys bringing it and Finch takes him out up 3 with 3 minutes left. Yes, NAW flubbed the defense on that last play and then fouled which was awful, but that whole thing was poorly coached? Take out Rudy for Mike? If you really wanted switching, why not Donte??? Or even Minott? We looked disorganized. And then Ant inbounds the ball with 3 sec left?
Spoelstra clearly outcoached Finch. How are we not more prepared for a Miami zone? They do it ALL THE TIME!

Makes me feel like Finch is turning into Thibs and only playing his "trusted circle" of vets. Too many coaches think they can pound a square peg into a round hole

Spoelstra maybe the best coach in the league. So its not surprising that he outcoached FInchy. That said...yes Finchy was bad last night at the end. Agree on the NAW/Conley swap at the end being bad. I think I've made my comments on Mike and think he'll come around, but until he does...you dont make that swap. As for the "mistake" that NAW made...he didnt. They were not supposed to switch until the ball was inbounded. Spoelstra (in a great move) used the entire court instead of just half of it on the inbound. Apparently Ant got screened and HIS guy (Jokic?) got free. Given how they instructions were to NOT switch before teh inbound....it took NAW a second to realize that he HAD to switch because Ant lost his guy. Thats why he was late. THe foul was just dumb though. As for the inbound....Ant wasnt supposed to be inbounding. HE was apparently supposed to be a ways away from the ball. But he was by the ref and the ref handed him the ball and Ant was out of bounds. So at that point he HAD to inbound the ball. So 2 mistakes that were on Ant. And the coaching for the players being confused.

Ant is the star and it's all been celebratory for him to this point, but at some point the production won't match up with the narrative that's been created. The mega star player that Ant has been made out to be isn't the player Ant has shown to this point. He is great about admitting to his errors, but he needs to actually correct them. The admissions will mean less if he starts repeating them again and again when the problems don't improve.

Why did Finch use such a short bench? I get it, Ingles is slow and lumbering and does not seem to have a shot anymore. But, there are 3 players who at some point should be getting some minutes, maybe not a ton. Garza Minott Dillingham They are all just warming the bench. Dliingham can score, in a game like this where Conley is struggling to score, you bring NAW and Dillingham in to get some minutes.
