Woof. That was ugly.
So many issues right now that I'm not sure where to start.
TOs keep getting referenced as killing the Wolves. I agree. As I've been saying since this summer we shouldn't expect it to improve too much. We don't have any low TO guys. Conley was, but he can't really do anything anymore anyway besides dance around screens for 3s. Him handling it more makes no sense right now. We're just going to have to deal with high TOs which means lots of frustrating games where we're saying "if they'd just take care of the ball." Rudy is turning it over more than usual (not sure how people including himself still don't understand his poor hands!). DDV and NAW are a little bit as well, but by and large we're just going to have more TOs due to personnel.
The defense has fallen precipitously. Losing Kyle hurts more than expected. Randle is a low energy defender. Ant and Jaden aren't there.
Donte has done a lot of stuff well, but he was awful in this one. I keep waiting for his shot to start dropping. He was 40% the last 2 years on good volume, now 33%.
Jaden made 2s, but you could see why he's a limited guy in this one. He's not a good decision maker. 4 TOs. How can you ramp him up if it means more TOs? Not defending like we need either and it's pretty clear that he's not a floor spacer in any way. No 3 pt volume and shooting under 30%. That extension isn't looking great right now.

Did not get a chance to watch this game, but in looking at the box score, they had 23 turnovers and got outrebounded by 7. Those are effort and carelessness stats in my mind. That's what's so weird about this team right now. It just really feels like they don't care as much. The little bit of postseason success may have gotten to their heads.
You just can't let Portland play harder than you. As long as I remember, once this team gets a little bit of success, they think everyone's just going to bow down to them.

I actually was thinking about this today so I'm glad Xray brought it up. Losing Kyle is hurting more than I think we thought it would. I knew he was a glue guy...but I didnt think he was like gorilla glue guy. I felt like DDV's offense and good enough D would make up for it. But obviously Kyle was doing more than we really knew. Dont believe me? We are #9 in defense right now after being #1 last year. The Golden State Warriors are way up this year and currently have the #3 defense. They have Kyle. Coincidence?

At least to some extent. I think it has more to do with Kerr playing the guys that deserve minutes vs him giving time to the guys he wanted on the floor in the past. He's playing less than 17 MPG, and while their defense is better when he plays, I don't think he's playing enough to be the reason they went from #11 to #5 (They aren't #3 in defense. They're 2nd in offense and 5th in defense). And as much as he's helping them on defense, he's absolutely cratering them on offense. While they're +9.5 defensively when he plays, they're -15.1 offensively.

I have to disagree in the sense that TOs and rebounding are ongoing problems. We don't rebound or take care of the ball on a nightly basis for the most part.
