Minnesota OUT:Jaylen Clark (right achilles tendon rupture rehab) Leonard Miller (G League assignment) Josh Minott (G League assignment) OrlandoOUT: Wendell Carter Jr. (right knee tendinitis) Gary Harris (right calf strain) Kevon Harris (two-way contract) Jett Howard (G League assignment) Joe Ingles (left ankle sprain) Jonathan Isaac (right hamstring strain) Franz Wagner (right ankle sprain) Battle of the Number One Picks Paolo Banchero, the reigning Rookie of the Year, has been on an absolute heater. He’s really built upon a great rookie campaign with an even more impressive sophomore season. In his last six games, he has averaged 32.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. Banchero has shouldered the load and then some, putting together an impressive highlight reel of clutch shot making in that span. Perhaps it’s the mythical “Team USA Boost” from this summer. Speaking of Team USA... Anthony Edwards has also continued his exceptional play. In that same stretch of games, Edwards is averaging 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on outstanding shooting splits. These two former number one picks look to be on a collision course to determine who the hottest young star in the league is. www.canishoopus.com/2024/1/8/24025459/wolves-vs-magic-preview-starting-time-tv-schedule-injury-report-odds-anthony-edwards-paolo-banchero

Will be interesting to see what we do with Paolo, as that scoring 4 has been tough for us lately - is he too big for Jaden/Ant? Is he too fast/perimeter oriented for KAT/Rudy? I'd think a combo of Jaden/SloMo should be able to slow him down, but it'll be fun to watch. I'm also very excited to see Suggs now that he's been playing a lot better. Hopefully KAT can have a huge game so the Magic fall in love with him ahead of this offseason...

Honestly, I'd put KAT on him to start and see how it goes. Banchero could give him fits, which then you'd have to put Jaden on him, but I'd like to see Ant on Suggs, Jaden on Wagner, KAT on Banchero, Rudy on Bitadze, and Mike on Anthony Black. Sidenote - excited to see Black for the first time this year and see what he's got against a tough defense. I think having a crafty veteran like Conley on him could be a good way to throw him off and try to force him into turnovers.

They started Okeke and Caleb Houston in the previous game with Paulo, Bitaze and Suggs. I think Rudy will be a key in this game. Orlando has gotten good production from Bitaze and Mo Wagner at the center spot with Carter out. If the Rudy can negate that production, I think they're thin without Franz. If we can limit Paulo and don't let Suggs, Anthony, and the others get going, we can win.

I don’t know how their guards have been playing but think they tend to be drivers rather than outside threats which plays into our defense. Paulo is tough but Rudy/Kat/Kyle should slow him down. Seems like good matchup for Wolves.

IMO, that'd be a great way to save KAT for Boston as he'd rest most of the game while in foul trouble. But maybe you could say the same about putting Jaden on him

Looks like Black started against Denver, but only played 5 minutes. Not sure why, but his minutes have fluctuated tremendously recently. This is a game we need to win.

This is a game we need to win. I think going in to this 16 game stretch, many would have said 8-8 would be o.k. and that's our floor at this point. Still, after starting strong, it feels like 8-8 would be a little bit of a let down. To your point, we really need this one if we want to "win" this tough stretch of games as I don't think we're winning tomorrow in Boston on the B2B. The Celtics are 17-0 at home!

To say the Wolves look good tonight is a huge understatement. McD killing it on Banchero. Towns has been unbelievable.

Jalen Suggs the Minnehaha Academy kid is having a good game tonight for Orlando. He's finally coming on after being drafted a couple of years ago.

Ant having his worst game of the year and we’re up 30 at the half. It was not coincidental BTW that we had our best offensive output with Ant on the bench in that 2nd quarter. The ball moved. Ant is just an incredible ball stopper right now.

Finchy definitely has a lot of Thibs in him. THe starters should have been pulled (or at least a few subbed out) much sooner than they were.
BTW, I think I saw Austin Rivers sitting courtside. Pretty sure he lives in the Orlando area. I take it he never signed with anyone this year?

Not happy we played our starters for so long tonight in a blowout win. We have Boston to play tomorrow. We need to get the rest where we can.

From another poster.
A few Quotes from Magic Fans
"If I'm being honest, this Minnesota team is fantastic. They are a likely candidate to make the WCF, I do wish we were a bit more competitive in this game."
" I feel bad for any team matched up with the Wolves in the playoffs."
"One of the best teams I’ve seen defend Paolo so far."
"We need a rim protecting big, somebody with length, size, and width, somebody that offensive players are scared to attack since they have no idea how to deal with the level of physicality. An elite interior defender, elite rim deterrent, and its even better if they can space the floor and is a reliable shooter who completes every PNP and roll." --------------------------------
I wonder what Sir Charles is saying about us today?

I wonder what Sir Charles is saying about us today? If the Wolves want national media to pay attention to them they have the opportunity tonight. Go into Boston and beat the Celtics on their undefeated homecourt on the 2nd night of a B2B after weather limited their travel. I'm not expecting it, but it would be the statement win of the year. Otherwise, beating the Magic was a nice win. We played crisply on offense and suffocating D. The Magic were missing several key players though so we can't think we did something great or anything.

Pretty sure he lives in the Orlando area. I take it he never signed with anyone this year? Right. Especially with Boston tonight, there was no reason to keep them in the game that long. BTW this is a prime example of where having Tyus would've been beneficial to getting Conley off the court last night so he could be ready for Boston. Austin Rivers probably was there. I know he had Rudy on his podcast this week which I'm looking forward to listening to today. But overall, whew. I said we needed to win that game and they must've heard me. That was arguably the best they've looked all year. Came out the gate on fire and didn't let up in a wire to wire win. KAT was fantastic tonight. He had it going and I loved to see him just striping the 3s. 5-5. SHOOT SOME MORE!! Jaden and Kyle got back on track a bit too which was awesome to see. I think those two in particular are very proud and confident players and I think with Jaden's injury and Kyle's hesitancy on the shots, I don't think they were playing super confidently recently. Hopefully this is a spark for better play here upcoming. Big one against Boston. I know the team got stuck in Orlando last night with weather, so hopefully they were able to get a good night's sleep for a big tilt with Boston tonight. Going to be really interesting to see what team comes out tonight.
