The Timberwolves will not pursue Joakim Noah should be become available, according to sources of Marc Stein of the New York Times.
Noah still has two years and roughly $37.8 million left on his horrendous contract, and word is that New York management is strongly considering using the waive-and-stretch provision to get him off the books. However, despite Tom Thibodeau's infatuation with the past, apparently, he's sane enough to not be interested in a washed up, 33-year-old center. Related: Timberwolves Source: Marc Stein on Twitter

Kevin Pelton's updated minutes projection for the Wolves.
I don't like it, but its hard to argue with...
Andrew Wiggins: 36 Jimmy Butler: 36 Karl-Anthony Towns: 36 Jeff Teague: 32 Taj Gibson: 30 Tyus Jones: 16 Anthony Tolliver: 15 Derrick Rose: 15 Gorgui Dieng: 15 Luol Deng: 15 Josh Okogie: 3 James Nunnally: 3 C.J. Williams: 2 Justin Patton: 2 Keita Bates-Diop: 0 Jared Terrell: 0

I actually believe this report. I'm ok without Noah. I've read reports from people in the know that suggest Noah is far from done. Regardless, we still need rim protection from the bench 2nd unit. Patton is the only one who might fit the bill.

We don't really have rim protection from the first unit either.
That's how we do...

Williams: 2 Justin Patton: 2 Keita Bates-Diop: 0 Jared Terrell: 0 that would really suck if our rookies (and Patton) totaled an average of 5 minutes per game.... Obvious other changes I would make without even giving much thought is: - cut Gibson's numbers down to around 20 and give those minutes to Tolliver and Deng, (whoever is most deserving and is in Thibs rotation, and matchups)..
- cut Wiggins and Butler's minutes down to 30-32 or so, and give those extra 8-10 minutes to Okogie
- cut Teague to 25 and play Tyus more

It sure looks right to me. My ideal would be getting KAT, Butler and Wigs down to 33-34 minutes. I think our 2nd unit is vastly better than last year. I love the veteran presence. That alone should make a huge difference and might contribute to getting the starters fewer minutes.
I hear Wiggins looks like a new man. He apparently has worked his ass off this summer. Hopefully he's added another arrow to the quiver. Hopefully Deng can help Wiggins in a way Butler can't.
I love the talent on this team. Now we need the coach to not screw it up.
I'm starting to get psyched about this group. I hope I'm not swearing a blue streak by Jan 1. :)

I'll be surprised if the rookies play much. Thibs knows he's coaching for his job. He knows we need to do better than last year AND we need to be good enough to convince Butler to come back. IMO, that means grinding the hell out of the veterans in an effort to maximize wins. Developing rookies is going to be about his 10th priority.

It has the potential to be, but its almost all question marks: - Jones is great. He was arguably our 3rd best player last year. (Even though Thibs can't see that). - Tolliver is solid. He's limited, but he does something we need badly. We just have to hope 3pt variance and/or age doesn't get him. - Dieng is a proven decent player as a starter, but he absolutely tanked coming off the bench last year. Can he adjust to the role? - We have no idea if Deng has anything left in the tank. - Okogie, KBD, Patton and Nunnelly are all completely untested at the NBA level. - Rose is terrible.

We don't really have rim protection from the first unit either. That's how we do... I think that's true in how Thibs has the defense set up. Towns can be a rim protector, but since Thibs came in I think his rim protection has dropped.

Kind of odd that KAT hasn't signed his extension yet. I'm 99% sure he will, but the hold-up is unusual. Its likely 1 of 2 things:
1. KAT is planning on signing it, but his holding off is his way of making a statement that he's not fully happy with things (This would be good). 2. He's holding out for an opt out clause after year 3. (This would be bad).
-----------------
Its also not a good sign that we aren't negotiating an extension with Tyus now. We could easily end up in a situation where Teague and Tyus both walk after the season and we'll have no PGs and no money to spend on one.
Although I suppose Tyus could be holding it up. He did ask for a trade at the end of the year and Thibs told him he'd have a bigger role. Maybe he's playing a little "wait and see"?

Thibs better play his cards right.
I had posted this on Sept 2, .....
From Charlie Walters at the Pioneer Press...
"DON’T PRINT THAT
Pssst: There’s more to the Jimmy Butler-Karl-Anthony Towns relationship than most people know, and it’s not encouraging for the Timberwolves."
Great! Just flippin great. Jimmy was trouble in Chicago and now here. This is KAT's team for sure. We can't afford to lose Jimmy for nothing. We're not in a great bargaining position with him. ---------------------------
This is KAT's team. It was hard for me to lose Lavine in that trade. If Jimmy continues to be a problem, Thibs needs to move him sooner vs later.

Even if Jimmy leaves, I'm glad we're not the team paying Zach 20M/year.

Zach will be a bargain at that price! Maybe better than Wiggins....

MVP caliber PG and he does not even make your honorable mention list? (:))

It sure does. It seems like yesterday skipping a college class to see the Wolves first victory ever against Sir Charles.
