Out of the blue!! It'll be interesting to see what happened and why now. I wonder if Hoiberg was close to getting offered the UCLA job and Glen freaked and realized he needed to move quicker in order to lock up Fred

This must mean Layden is gone too, right?

Probably Hoiberg from what's being rumored. He's going country club on the hire after he got burned on Thibs.

According to Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (via Twitter), the Timberwolves have fired Tom Thibodeau as head coach and president of basketball operations. After dealing with the Jimmy Butler fiasco, the Timberwolves currently sit at 19-21 and are on the outside looking in on the Western Conference playoff picture.
Krawczynski is also reporting that Ryan Saunders will take over as head coach on an interim basis while Scott Layden will still serve as the team’s GM.
Meanwhile, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN is reporting that Fred Hoiberg is a serious candidate to become the team’s GM or coach. Hoiberg previously served as the Timberwolves’ assistant GM before leaving to be the head coach at Iowa State University.

Chris Hine@ChristopherHine More Taylor on his outlook for Ryan Saunders: "My hope would be that Ryan takes over and we play well or good enough to get into the playoffs and do well there and that Ryan would earn to be the permanent coach. That would be my hope."

Chris Hine@ChristopherHine More Taylor on his outlook for Ryan Saunders: "My hope would be that Ryan takes over and we play well or good enough to get into the playoffs and do well there and that Ryan would earn to be the permanent coach. That would be my hope." So Hoiberg as POBO and Saunders as coach? Burned by Thibs and back to the country club in full force. That said...if Saunders is able to push the buttons to get this team to the playoffs, that would be something to take notice of. I can't see us making the playoffs unless Saunders makes some good changes as this team isn't a playoff team on paper. What I mean is that if this team makes the playoffs, good coaching would be an absolute necessity and that would be a big feather in Saunders cap. Firing Thibs now is actually the best way to really evaluate Saunders. I'd much rather try Saunders out as interim compared to firing Thibs at the end of the year and giving the job to Saunders to start a season. Saunders wouldn't be a top choice at all for me, but we don't have any info at this point that he isn't a good coach.

So so happy. I don't know if anyone watched the game but through the entire game Thibs was yelling. I don't know if that was it but it might have been.
Wonder what happened that he was let go especially after a win.

Wonder what happened that he was let go especially after a win. That was the weird thing for me as well. I saw that Wolves were up 18 after the 1st and then I was seeing patients and got a notification on my phone that Thibs is fired. i immediately assumed that we lost. And then I had a great surprise, that we won and still fired Thibs. Win-Win!!!
