Chris Hine@ChristopherHine More Taylor on his outlook for Ryan Saunders: "My hope would be that Ryan takes over and we play well or good enough to get into the playoffs and do well there and that Ryan would earn to be the permanent coach. That would be my hope." So Hoiberg as POBO and Saunders as coach? Burned by Thibs and back to the country club in full force. That said...if Saunders is able to push the buttons to get this team to the playoffs, that would be something to take notice of. I can't see us making the playoffs unless Saunders makes some good changes as this team isn't a playoff team on paper. What I mean is that if this team makes the playoffs, good coaching would be an absolute necessity and that would be a big feather in Saunders cap. Firing Thibs now is actually the best way to really evaluate Saunders. I'd much rather try Saunders out as interim compared to firing Thibs at the end of the year and giving the job to Saunders to start a season. Saunders wouldn't be a top choice at all for me, but we don't have any info at this point that he isn't a good coach. Yep, it looks like Hoiberg for POBO. At this point I really don't care about the "country club". Thibs wasn't country club and look at how he turned out.
I like the idea of Saunders getting a 1/2 year to evaluate than having him start a season.
I don't agree we lack playoff talent. I love our talent. My guess is the players will love playing for Ryan. I've asked around and been told the players all respect and like Ryan. Chances are the players will give him their best.
Thank god no more barking dog on the sidelines. I think just about everybody has had enough of that.

So so happy. I don't know if anyone watched the game but through the entire game Thibs was yelling. I don't know if that was it but it might have been. Wonder what happened that he was let go especially after a win. That was the weird thing for me as well. I saw that Wolves were up 18 after the 1st and then I was seeing patients and got a notification on my phone that Thibs is fired. i immediately assumed that we lost. And then I had a great surprise, that we won and still fired Thibs. Win-Win!!! I heard Thibs had no idea. After the post game presser he went back up to his office. Casson and Laydon followed him in and gave him the news.

Hoiberg as POBO will be interesting. Will he be able to evaluate talent well. I don't think Thibs was able to well. He lucked into Okogie and he never played Bates-Diop so no clue on that. His signings all sucked with a few exceptions.

I want to see how Saunders handles minutes. Will Saric start over Taj? Will Tyus get more minutes? Will okogie get minutes when everyone is healthy? How will he get through to Wiggs (screaming at him clearly isn't the way as Thibs never learned)? Will the offense finally revolve around KAT?
I bet the Wolves play with a lot of joy over the next few games.

Everyone always said Thibs ran the most grinding, tough practices of any coach in this league. So not only was he burning the starters out in-game, everyone was getting worn down day in and day out, and I firmly believe this is why we couldn't win on the road. Traveling is exhausting enough without someone who doesn't seem to care that he's working with humans with limits and not chess pieces.

I’m pretty surprised, but happy. I thought for sure the money would keep Taylor from cutting him loose

I think that is why Glen has all those execs to insulate him from the bad stuff that he should be doing as owner.

Tubby Smith, Flip Saunders, Randy Whitman, Sam Mitchell, Tom Thibodeau - would he know a modern offense or defense it if smacked him in the face? My guess is we're not much (any?) better scheme-wise, but hopefully the players will be happier, the minutes will be better distributed and things will be more fun.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with Saunders as interim. Its the least offensive option, as I can’t remember the last time a team hired an outside coach during a season.
But going into next year, we need a strong coach that can "deprogram" our guys from the damage that Thibs caused, and we absolutely need someone that excels in development because of how young our roster is. That’s more important than adding a few marginal players to a very cap-strapped team.
Its a big reason I’m pushing so hard for Hammon or Fernandez. Both come from organizations that have done an absolutely tremendous job of developing young players over the past number of years.

I have zero faith in the Saunders kid to take this (or any) group to the promised land... other than his last name, nothing really qualifies him to be mentioned as a possible NBA level hire...

Please no...
Randy Wittman is a name to watch. Has worked with Ryan, loves the Saunders family. IF they add someone for the rest of the season, he'd make sense. --Doogie

Man, Saunders is just a kid.
6 years younger than Walton, 10 years younger than Stevens.
Younger than Gibson, Tolliver and Deng...

Not my first choice, but a way better option than Hpiberg: Williams, 47, was the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets and Pelicans for five seasons and he reached the Western Conference playoffs twice. He served as associate head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder before the tragic death of his wife, Ingrid. Following the tragedy, Williams spent a couple of seasons with the San Antonio Spurs front office. He was hired as an Assistant Coach by Brett Brown in June 2018. sixerswire.usatoday.com/2019/01/06/tom-thibodeau-fired-minnesota-timberwolves-monty-williams-head-coach-candidacy/

If he gets some good play out of these guys, has smart rotations, and wins some games there is no reason he shouldn't be named the head coach moving forward.

BTW, I do like Monty Williams but a young up and comer is the way for us to go. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Ryan Saunders does a good job for us.
