We need a good GM, not sure we've ever had one of those. That will take care of the coach problem and the bad free agent signings. Actually I think Thibs GM is not bad at all. His drafting and trading is not bad so far. He does like Chicago guys, but Butler and Taj have been good for us.

Sorry about that...He really hasn't brought any great non-Bull talent unless you think Jeff Teague is that guy. This year has to be a better year for Teague considering his strong finish. Maybe he's getting used to Thibs?

My thought with Hammond is the only way we likely hire her is if we first hire a progressive GM/POBO. Yea, logistically Taylor would just need to fire Tom and bring in a new GM to hire the new coach. Or he can “McHale” Tom and have the new GM pretend Tom has a chance to interview for his coaching job... and then fire him soon after. Here’s to hoping it goes down in May one way or the other.

If he did hire Hammond, it would lessen the PR blow of the whole Jimmy fiasco. The hire would quickly become the headline and the Jimmy stuff would be forgotten quickly.

Can't imagine any decent coach would take the wolves job if Thibs is still here in the front office. I think any candidate would have to be worried about Thibs ability and desire to stay out of the day-to-day coaching decisions. I really hope Glen acts decisively and doesn't take a wait and see approach on Thibs future. I would rather have Glen buy out Thibs, turn the front office over to Layden and hire an unproven coach (ie cheap coach) rather than keep Thibs around for another year due to money issues.

Keep Layden, fire Thibs and get Becky Hammond in here. If I could get any other Popovich person here I would.

My choice would be David Adelman with Ryan Saunders as an assistant. I would be ok with Hammonds too but not my first choice. We need to think outside the box a little. You could get these guys pretty cheap too which Taylor would love. Fire Thibs today! Please! BTW, I was just listening to Butler as he was being introduced to MN last June saying how important Thibs is to him. How much he owes Thibs and worst of all how when he plays in a city he will love the fans and give his all.
How he could stab Thibs in the back like that is beyond me.
Bleep you Jimmy.

Bleep you Jimmy. How is David Adelman or Ryan Saunders thinking outside the box? Just that most people are expecting a big name or well known coach. Certainly neither of those guys are.
So much for a dull summer. :) Today is such a shocker. Unbelievable!

Hiring Ryan Saunders would be the most "in the box" thing Glen could do.

I honestly think Jim Peterson would be a potential good coach for this team, and he meets the "comfortable" criteria

I honestly think Jim Peterson would be a potential good coach for this team, and he meets the "comfortable" criteria I could see Jim Pete going to the sidelines but probably as an ass't under Scott Roth *IF* that were to happen. If I were a betting man today, my gut is: 55% No changes to the FO for now. Thibs starts (and probably ends the season) as coach/POBO. 30% Thibs is fired, Roth takes over and Layden is GM for the year before being "reassigned" 15% Thibs and Layden are both fired, someone is quickly promoted or hired as coach and a new GM comes on board (in Taylor world, coach before GM obviously lol).

Report: Tom Thibodeau’s status with Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor is tenuous. by Ashish MathurSeptember 19, 2018 Minnesota Timberwolves head coach/team president Tom Thibodeau has a “tenuous” status with owner Glen Taylor, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. This report comes as part of the news that star Jimmy Butler has requested a trade. Wojnarowski reported last week that Taylor has “significant concern” over the culture created under Thibodeau and general manager Scott Layden. Taylor’s concerns run so deep that he reportedly contemplated making organizational changes during the offseason. Taylor reportedly has “second-guessed” his decision recently to grant Thibodeau the authority to control basketball operations, along with being the head coach. It hasn’t been a quiet summer in Minnesota. There were rumblings of a disconnect between Karl-Anthony Towns and the franchise soon after last season ended. The Timberwolves parted ways with player development coach Vince Legarza this summer. Legarza was very close with Towns, and the big man still has not yet signed his max contract extension. Later in June, reports surfaced that Butler was uncertain about playing with Andrew Wiggins and had issues with Wiggins’ work ethic and approach on defense. Then in July, another report claimed Butler was fed up with the nonchalant attitude of Towns. Now, there’s the news that broke Wednesday that the four-time All-Star has requested a trade. Just a brutal offseason for the Timberwolves, who made the playoffs last year for the first time in 14 years. Thibodeau is reportedly resistant to trading Butler as of now. Thibodeau, who won Coach of the Year with the Chicago Bulls in 2011, was hired by the Timberwolves in 2016, and there was optimism within the franchise he could turn the organization into a winner. Even though the team made the playoffs in 2018 in the rugged Western Conference, things behind the scenes haven’t been pretty at all. link

How can fans put pressure on Glen to end this experiment and bring back that family vibe that players liked so much in the Wolves organization? KAT and the rest of our players went from absolutely loving it in MN to not wanting anything to do with the team. I miss Flip...

Just firing Thibs right after the Butler trade would send celebrations across the state.

How can fans put pressure on Glen to end this experiment and bring back that family vibe that players liked so much in the Wolves organization? KAT and the rest of our players went from absolutely loving it in MN to not wanting anything to do with the team. I miss Flip... Hold up. There was no sign that anyone liked the family vibe and for the most part the franchise's management structure was a running joke for those in the league, players, media, and the league office I would even say. We somehow were forced into asking the league for potential hires after the McHale era mercifully ended and they told us to hire David Kahn and we FREAKING DID. This was after we drove Dennis Lindsey to Utah because Taylor's family vibe management team was having him take personality strength finding tests before they would hire him. There is a middle ground between hiring a dictator figure like Thibs and having no real competent management structure because Taylor's family (son in law I believe) controlled much of the operations for decades. Hire a competent GM like David Griffin that has a reputation in the league and give them 5 years to bring us up to speed. I don't care who he hires as coach, just let an actual GM who is respected in the league run the f-ing team. We haven't had that other than Flip for 2-3 years in the 30 years this franchise has been around. That's incredible.

I'm afraid the Wolves are teetering on a lost season. I would be surprised if the Wolves flush away the season this early by trading Jimmy and firing Thibs. If the Wolves fire Thibs now they would have to promote from within and start a fresh coach/GM/presiddent search next off season. Without Jimmy the Wolves will struggle to make the playoffs and everyone will be calling for Thibs' head because "his star" burned the franchise. Welcome to Wolves fandom the most frustrating team to follow in all the north...

You can't make this stuff up. Maybe he'll actually agree to mutually part ways and Taylor won't have to pay anything to get rid of Thibs. Sources tell SN's @seandeveney Tom Thibodeau would rather leave the Timberwolves than rebuild following a Jimmy Butler trade: readsn.com/2PUEB9Z
