I'm putting this thread here because I doubt it'll get any traction with the zero posts Lynx subforum.
What a Game 1 tonight. Collier might be the most complete basketball player on the planet. She can literally do it all. This team as a whole is so so good!

That was the most insane last 10 seconds of basketball I've ever seen. The crazy 4 point play, the jump ball when the refs didn't know what happened, it felt like we had to stop them 8 different times in the halfcourt.... then finally a tough (but probably accurate) whistle on Collier, only for the Universe to step in and say this good of a game shouldn't end on questionable free throws. Just a wild, fun game!
Collier was incredible. Absolutely shutdown Stewart and then was also great offensively. It felt like they should have called her number more times offensively, but a win's a win.

What a fun game. The Lynx just don't back down. Collier is great and Williams is a baller.

This Lynx team is for REAL. This is a team with very few weaknesses. They are strong on both ends of the floor and are extremely well coached. They have so many offensive weapons and move the ball so well they are so tough to guard. They are unselfish and have high BBL-IQ's.
The Lynx are a lot of fun to watch too.
It would not surprise me if they won it all.
I can't say enough about Cheryl Reeve as a HC and GM. She is amazing. She is tough, demanding, and yet the players love to play for her.

I need to watch some of the games. I missed it. Good for them. Maybe this can be an all Minnesota professional basketball season for Championships.

I watched them their inaugural season and they were unwatchable. Nobody except Katey Smith could shoot a lick. They were a mess. today is night and day from then. The Lynx play great fundamental basketball. It's fun to watch.

Caitlin Clark is going to do to that league what Jordan did for the NBA. I think its great. I'd definitely watch more if I had more time.

Honestly, based on the limited amount of watching I devoted to he WNBA, it seems Clark is nowhere as good as Maya Moore was. She is heads and shoulders above the other rookies, compares favorably to the majority of the players in this league, but no sane team would trade their best player for her. Just a mountain of hype to push he league agenda.

She’s a lot better than that. She might be the best passer in the game. And she has basically unlimited range.
She’s Steve Nash.

Does Maya Moore hold any records? CC is so much fun to watch, like when we had RR. The court vision and passing makes me afraid to blink for fear of missing something amazing.

I already admitted I did not dedicate a lot of time to WNBA in the past. I liked Maya because when nothing else worked, they gave her the ball, and, long story short, they won the title! Maya was a winner. CC is more of a stat body. I guess the Steve Nash comparison is legit: lots of skill, fun to watch, zero titles... That would make Maya be a good comparison for Kobe: grabbed the opportunity by the neck and willed everybody all the way to a bunch of titles. At all levels, Maya was more successful... understanding of course that CC is just beginning to write her story!

You know Clark is a rookie, right? And she led a team that was terrible last year to the Playoffs. It might be too soon to declare she’s never going to win anything.
Maya joined a team stacked with Hall of Fame players.

Maya joined a team stacked with Hall of Fame players. Sure! Fair point! Maya won at the college level though. They both completed that stage of their careers... Any player in the league would have been available to trade for Maya Moore the year she was a rookie. Tickets sold aside, do you think MIN would trade any of their top two players for CC? How about NYL? These are not rhetorical questions. I truly feel like I have an incomplete view of that league...

WNBA drafted players that Maya played with each season: 2011 - Dolson (6th overall), Hartley (7th overall), Hayes (14th overall) 2010 - Tina Charles (1st overall), Greene (13th overall), Hayes (14th overall) 2009 - Renee Montgomery (4th overall), Tina Charles (1st overall), Greene (13th overall), Hayes (14th overall) 2008 - Renee Montgomery (4th overall), Tina Charles (1st overall), Houston (30th overall) , Swanier (12th overall) Would CC have won a championship playing with that consortium of talent?

Maya joined a team stacked with Hall of Fame players. I would argue Maya helped them get to the HOF. I'm not sure Simone would be in if she was stuck on a losing team. I'm not sure we win all those WNBA Championships without Maya.

*IE Warriors example
CC is the exact thing I am saying about Steph all these years, although she is more of a play-maker for teammates in the traditional sense. Will the W change the league to prop her up, or allow her team to lead the league in illegal screens? Does that league have a Kevin Durant they could give her?
She is nearly an identical example to Steph.
I wished I would have got to some of the Whalen games, true point guard fo sho, and Moore was obviously amazing.

So many miss layups and wide open mid-range shots tonight late in the game. They could have sealed that game away tonight. We are going to have to win it in NY if we are going to win it all.

That game should have ended in regulation. I'm not one to complain about the refs, but that was a bullshit call.

That game should have ended in regulation. I'm not one to complain about the refs, but that was a bullshit call. I can take missed calls (even as bad as the obvious travel). It was the review that irked me. They had the ability to correct a phantom call. That call had no business being whistled in the context of the way the game had been officiated for 40 minutes. Upholding it given the extremely marginal contact (that was initiated by Stewart) was silly especially when they could also see she traveled to get to that point. Even if you think it's a toss up, I'd be swayed by just the fact that she cheated to even create that shot.

It was a horribly officiated game.
That said, if Phee makes that last layup, it puts the game away.
That was crushing.
