Game 1 tonight. Do any of the new guys play? I doubt it, so it'll be interesting to see how Minnott/Miller and Dillingham/Shannon play with real NBA rotation guys around them. I've only ever seen them with other G-Leaguers, so it'll be interesting to see how they look with real structure and expectations (for preseason lol).

I guess is there a reason why they wouldn't play besides load/injury management? I understand wanting more practice but preseason is literally 100% real-time practice. I say play em and whatever happens, happens.

If the new guys are in shape, I'd say throw them in there to let them get a little 5-on-5 run in and just do some hooping. They'll learn the playbook in due time, but it would be nice to just get them some run with the guys to maybe see what their tendencies are and to get DiVincenzo especially some in-game shooting reps.

Agree with this unless Finch has plans to not play guys in every game. I think there's 5 preseason games and if Finch is only going to play the established guys in say 3 games, I'd be ok if they don't play tonight. I actually don't agree with sitting guys out completely in preseason this year as I think incorporating 2 new major pieces means we should get as many reps as possible just for familiarity (even if they don't know all the sets).

You have to play the new guys some. We need to build that chemistry ASAP. It's an even better time to do it when the games don't count.

There will be plenty of time to see the reserves. I think you have to go with the top 8 early to make sure they are running everything ok. Go to the bench later in the game.

Really just watched highlights but some nice things from Dillingham, Minott, Shannon, and Garza. For a team that is asset poor in the future, we have as much young talent as any team in the league.

I agree. Great to see Garza and Minott play like they did. Minott looks like he really improved his shot. Of course it's just one game but it's encouraging.
Shannon' athleticism reminds me of Ant. Shannon could be a monster. What a draft pick.
And then there is Dilly. The kid is fearless.

My son just said "I think Dilly is a combination of Kyrie and Jamal Crawford". I think thats pretty good. Dilly doesnt seem to have seen a shot he doesnt like...and he has a great handle.

New additions in randle, Shannon and dillingham really put pressure on the rim. maybe the defense takes a step back this year, but the offense could take a leap forward. I see the wolves running a lot more this year. Finch said one thing he really loves about randle is his ability to grab a board and race down court.
All 3 of those guys can generate a shot for themselves at any moment, which is an upgrade from last year.
Garza seems to be taking the Naz route as he has gotten into even better shape than last season.

dillingham really put pressure on the rim. He really struggled there last night. His current strength is a concern. The shooting is there, the handle is maybe Top 5 in the league, and the instincts are good. But he got continually eaten alive trying to get to the rim last night.

At least he kept attacking, and he finished a few times. I feel like he’ll figure out how to navigate down there eventually. His defense though.

He'll figure it out though. I'd have him look at Allan Iverson video to give him some ideas.

He needs to add strength more than anything else.

Once he figures out the gather step, then 2 steps - like Shannon already has on his monster dunk - he'll be able to finish better. I'm not worried about the results, I'm happy there's another player that can break down his defender. When he gets to the rim, he's drawing defenders and the Wolves need more of that. At least one time, Garza had an easy offensive board and putback. As long as he keeps collapsing the defense, he'll just need to make sure to make the correct decision.

I watched the first half to get a glimpse of some of the new players and rookies. My thoughts from the 1st half: Christie- Looked out of his league when playing starters or back ups. Conley destroyed him on one play with a simply going back and forth near a set player. It was like an adult playing with a child. Christie also got pushed around a ton with starters and 2nd stringers.
James Jr.- Meh
Our players: Minott- not impressed at all with his play in the game. YEah, he scored but just not looking like anything other than D-League and emergency player.
Garza- He looked good out there, making some moves and shooting well.
DiVincenzo- He looked really good. He is going to help a ton with scoring off the bench.
Ingles- Looked slow and lumbering, no shot during the game. Dillingham- He really has a nice shot. However, he simply did not seem to handle the pounding in the paint very well. That is where is size may hurt him in the NBA. He has a good handle on the ball and can get to the paint. Hopefully, some strength building will help in the long run.

I also got very very annoyed with the announcers. They had little to say about the Wolves. Way too Lakers heavy conversation. They liked Garza and Shannon, commented on Garza appearing to have been to the weight room.

Not sure what else you could ask of Minott.
Obviously the shots were falling, but he also grabbed 8 boards, 3 steals and 2 blocks. With only 1 PF and 1 TO.
And he defended bigs and smalls quite well.

Just what I saw in the 1st half did not impress me. He was not under control, sometimes out of position defensively, etc. Stats also say Christie played fine, but the visual test against starters and 2nd stringers he was not ready.
Minott was playing 3rd and 4th stringers, or G-leaguer players most of the time.

Yep. Not only did his game look good, but, physically, he appeared considerably stronger/bigger and he was more in control like the game has slowed down for him. Hoping it's not a one game sample size.
